I really recommend this book, for all ages.1 of 1 people found the following review helpful.Da da da da da da da da, AIRMAN!By Oliver LangfordAirman is a fantastic book by author of the Artemis Fowl and Half-Moon Investigations series', Eoin Colfer. This time he has ticked all my boxes in an action packed, hilarious and well-written piece of fiction. The descriptive language, the humorous pieces and the exceptional style made me believe it is one of the most entertaining stories I have ever read. Four and a half stars, no doubt about it!Based a couple hundred years ago, it starts off with a boy named Conor obsessed with conquering the skies and building planes. It then delves into all parts of his life, which all come in handy for the climax when army leader Hugo Bonvilain thinks of a dastardly plan to become a kind of dictator on the small but incredibly rich islands that they live on.From princesses to luminous coral to blind musicians and the mysterious 'Sheep', Colfer has produced a truly delicious feast with unrivaled skill.I recommend it for all those with a good understanding of a brilliant story and a touch of humour as well.Wonderful book, and we once again applaud the magician that is Eoin Colfer.0 of 0 people found the following review helpful.Wonderful Adventure StoryBy Lee ArmstrongEoin Colfer was on my brother's bookshelf when I visited him. The cover called to me; so I ordered my own copy. What a wonderful adventure story. Conor Broekhart's travels from the young precocious student to becoming witness to political assassination to prisoner to fugitive to hero is a breathtaking plot! Colfer's villain, Bonvilain is so dastardly that it makes the novel entertaining, not bogging us down so much with the psychological intricacies of character development. What Colfer does exquisitely well is present us with well-drawn and distinct characters that move the story's plot briskly, making it a page turner. The budding romance with the lovely Princess Isabella adds sweetness to what at times is a brutal story in the prison mines. I particularly liked Declan Broekhart's sense of duty and loyalty and his attempt to balance this work dedication to his love for his family. Marketed for the younger reader, it also an excellent read for the adult reader. This is an enjoyable adventure. Enjoy!See all 115 customer reviews...
