Ms. Laurenston!By Josey RodzMy review is purely for the first book by Shelly Laurenston. It was such a great read. Never have I read a love story so clearly from the 60s written so well. The author really describes the characters well. You got hippie heroine and military man. Those two could not be more opposites during that time period. Heroine had free love and peace for everyone going. Hero was a true introvert military man doing dirty things that nobody understood he did to protect them all and was thankless. They way they treated him was shameful for someone that did so much to protect the freedom of everyone and keep everyone safe. I am so glad heroine saw him for a great man he was.I can't say how much I loved the dialogue between the couple. It was hilarious. There was also some serious and touching moments, but everything was so good all together. The love scenes were steamy. The crazy family they both had added so much entertainment to the read. It is a must read for anyone that may enjoy reading hippie love story (heroine), 60s period background, unique shifter underworld, and groovy love story. Safe read. Hero was heroine's first, but she was a hippie that hiked as mode transportation so I know she knew stuff;) I loved it.I wish author would write love story for the daughter. The epilogue was so good!!! I loved it!!!!2 of 2 people found the following review helpful. Not Worth the Money - 2nd Story TerribleBy abrasroseBUY A USED COPY OF THIS BOOK ($2.99 with no shipping)!I'm giving this book one star because the kindle version was priced at $9.63 to reflect that it is two books. The second book so terrible that I only finished it due to the price.Like a Wolf With A Bone by Shelly Laurenston is one of my favorite stories in the Pride series. Darla is not the usual she-wolf character, but she works anyway. Some of the reviewers said she was sheltered, but I'm not sure where they got this idea as Darla left home at 18 to pursue a cooking career that took her all over Europe. Her primary mode of transportation was hitchhiking. From the book description I thought this was going to be the usual virgin taming the hardened killer, but it wasn't like that. Darla wasn't a shrinking violet and Eggie didn't change. I really liked the shout-out to Blayne's father. Blayne and Bo are my favorite characters in the series and her father is awesome.Wed or Dead by Cynthia Eden was horrific. It has it all: melodrama, repetition, paper thin cliched characters, and a-hole alpha male. Kayla is the hunter who kills evil paranormals and Gage is the animalistic werewolf alpha who is Willing To Do What It Takes. They marry because she is supposed to get close to him as part of her job. Of course, she really marries him because She Wants Him. Insta-love is always a gimme in shifter stories and it usually doesn't bother me, but here the melodrama level is so high that it's annoying. I'm sorry about the caps, but honestly, this is how the book sounds. This is partial list of the things that drove me nuts:1) Gage is always able to predict what's about to happen and has a plan.2) Kayla spends an inordinate amount of time telling us she's a trained killer and lethal weapon, that she's bitter, that her life isn't a fairy tale, that she wants to be just a woman in love with a man, and that her motivation is to avenge the murder of her parents.3) There are lots of sentence fragments to sound dramatic. "To yell. To explode. But she didn't." and "Going missing. He'd lost two wolves. No more." and "A shifter and a hunter. How insane." and "Every single one. Slowly. Painfully." I could go on forever with these, but then I would have copied at least a third of the book.4) The fact that humans misunderstand werewolves is repeated over and over again. The two sides hate each other and Gage and Kayla are sort of Romeo and Juliet.5) The werewolves punch each other for no apparent reason because they have "animal instinct". Which animal would that be6) We are told over and over that shifters are psychotic bastards that go insane without a pack. I counted five repetitions, which doesn't include the baddie’s several internal monologs about being insane and not wanting a pack.7) Melodramatic and hokey writing. "Yeah, cry me a bleeding river." I like Dashiell Hammett and lines like this are clearly an effort to sound like him, but they fall flat.8) Gage is able to escape handcuffs by shifting, but the werewolves he puts in handcuffs don't try that.0 of 0 people found the following review helpful.Showcases Each Author's StyleBy K. M. MartinThese two novellas were good illustrations of each author's style. In "Like a Wolf with a Bone" by Shelly Laurenston we have a humorous paranormal. Eggie Smith is the most feared wolf shifter in his very fearsome family. And he likes it that way. He likes being able to frighten humans and other shifters with just a glance. Darla Lewis isn't the least bit intimidated. She took one close glance into his eyes and knew all about him. Eggie rescues her from humans who want to kill her because she can link them to a murder. Eggie will do whatever it takes to protect his pacifist, pastry-baking mate.In "Wed of Dead" we have a hunter marrying a wolf shifter. She thinks that it is only to get close to him so that she can kill him. After all, her boss has shown her evidence that he has been preying on humans. Only thing is, the boss has been lying for his own ends. Now Gage and Kayla have to find a way to out the boss and save both the hunters and the wolves from betrayal. For humor, check out Laurenston. For more intense and spicier reading, check out Eden.See all 143 customer reviews... Shelly Laurenston Series Pride Stories Shelly Laurenston - Welcome to the World of Shelly Laurenston ...
