I loved his intensity. He's aggressive, rough and edgy. He's hard and hawt and fierce and just the perfect way I love my Alpha male characters to be portrayed. He's a gentleman to women...he's strong and muscled and toned and deadly. I loved this guy. Controlling and full of fire (literally)...commanding and demanding.I liked this paranormal world of immortals that Ms. Zanetti created. They need sleep and they have weaknesses. They get hungry and they bleed...they need air. Yet they're powerful and gifted. Ms. Zanetti roped me in with this world of witches, demons, vampires and shifters living among humans. Then she added the MC element who didn't have a clue who lived among them. This story is the usual format for good-vs-evil while a romance ignites and grows. I liked it all because the immortals have a few weaknesses making them vulnerable. This is a story of witches and shifters and demons and vamps uniting to get a designer other worldly drug off the street. The romance was detailed and hawt and didn't overwhelm the plotline. As with the previous book, I enjoyed revisiting with the characters from the Dark Protectors series, many of whom made cameos throughout the storyline. Daire had always had a preconceived notion of his future mate—a nice, docile, sweet woman who didn’t get in the way of his job and was a soft place to land when needed. It sure as hell wasn't a fearless, fist-fighting, double-crossing, bank-robbing, scheming strategist who liked to blow things up. He liked an orderly life, and he liked peaceful women. Cee Cee, on her own, was a barrel of crazy schemes and too much energy with tight ties to a nation that might create even more problems for him as an enforcer. A woman on a mission, hellbent on vengeance. A fierce, pint-sized master of mayhem who wasn't going to let anything, or anyone, get in the way of her grand plan of revenge and death. Even so, they complimented each other perfectly. I thought the twist involving Cee Cee's true identity—though I was fairly certain I knew who she was before her identity was revealed—was great! I am reading or have read 5 of her 6 series. There are details about the book in my review.My pet peeve in books, especially series, is continuity. Here is a paragraph from Book 1 of the series, "Wicked Ride", in Chapter 25:"Kell skirted a minivan full of kids and drove through the city, finally opening up the throttle upon reaching clear road. He and Daire rode side-by-side, in sync. They had been young when their parents died in one of the battles leading up to the first large war."In this book, "Wicked Edge" second in the series, in Chapter 15 Felicity asks Daire about his parents and he says, "Retired and currently working on the food crops in Ireland. Both scientists."Soooo...are the dead or alive I don't understand how no one on Ms. Zanetti's team picked up on this. I also wonder how Ms. Zanetti didn't remember (or maybe have an ancestry chart) that the parents of her main characters were dead in the first bookI had a difficult time with the female characters and their actions in both books of this series. (Wicked RIde is Book 1 of this series). SInce this review is for book 2 I will stick with those characters and storyline. Felicity (Cee-Cee) had promise as a strong female character. She managed to assemble a team to take out several mines all over the world, rob banks simultaneously and take down Daire, an Enforcer for goodness sake, 3 times with tranquilizer and kicks ass in fights against men twice her size. Yet, her sons have no clue, she can be a strong capable woman and patronize her endlessly. That being said for someone who is so smart and strong as to manage all of the previosly mentioned chaos, she still manages to put herself in ridiculously stupid situations on the premise she is protecting her sons and eventually Daire.As for Daire, the no nonsense take no s*** from anyone enforcer, I ask, How can he be hoodwinked so many times and still believably think Cee-Cee is "sweet". Sweet SeriouslyOverall I appreciated the story itself even if the characters made me cringe at their stupidity at times. It was annoying but I never contemplated not finishing the book. I will read the third book in the series and hope for smarter women.See all 141 customer reviews...
