It is for those who have experienced real sexual abuse - particularly adults who experienced the abuse in childhood. The early chapters are hard work and best completed in a support group with a counselor. However, even if you work through this book alone, the support and knowledge shared by the author can radically change your life for the better. Written with warmth and honesty, this book can be an eye-opener for spouses as well. I pray to God that you will never experience sexual abuse, but if you have, this book is an investment worth making in yourself.4 of 4 people found the following review helpful.much like The Wounded HeartBy LMWI have not yet finished this book by Dr Allender but wanted to rate the reading to this point...I'm quite sure the rest of the book will be just as well done, much like The Wounded Heart. When reading Dr Allender's books on sexual trauma I feel known and understood as a victim of sexual abuse...that is so meaningful and powerful on every level. Dr Allender helps the sexual trauma survivor do the transforming work toward freedom in Christ. I cannot tell you enough how incredibly grateful I am for his work in this arena! His work gives a path to healing and hope to victims/survivors without simplifying or platitudes which is appropriate for this incredibly complex subject. Going into our stories is hard work but worth every effort. I keep experiencing "A-ha" moments and deep gratitude in the midst of profound pain and victory as I explore my story and work the healing process. The Author moves from "the wounded heart" directly into "the healing path". "The healing path", is focused on the "the marriage relationship". The author's assumption that the reader/audience has already entered marriage, let alone a romantic relationship, is a huge shortcoming of this book. Unfortunately, I did not find this helpful along my path to healing. Though perhaps those who are married, will find the text useful.See all 58 customer reviews...
